Rob Dew’s actual on-air tip of the day, sparked by a viral clip of a restaurant checkout screen: don’t trust the preset percentage buttons (15/20/25%) on card readers. In the example, the screen’s “20%” button worked out to roughly 32% of the actual bill — the creator says there was no discount or coupon on her receipt, so it wasn’t a pre-discount calculation issue either. The fix is simple: skip the percentage buttons, do the math yourself (double the bill’s first digit for a rough 20% tip), and type in your own amount instead of trusting the display.
