Honey Boo Boo

In show 441 Dvorak brings up Honey Boo Boo, a TV reality show about fat, hick Republicans that are raising a pageant girl. Dvorak then played a bunch of crazy sound clips. John said that most of the reality shows are created to make you feel better about yourself.

Lagunitas IPA

At the end of NA 440, John Dvorak declared Lagunitas IPA the best beer on Pacific coast! Well, it's good if you like very hoppy beer.

Sweet Caroline

During NA 440 Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline was mentioned as it is the recently cancelled Penn State song that used to be played by their marching band during their football games.

The Newsroom

During NA 440, HBO's The Newsroom came up again. It really seems to rub John Dvorak the wrong way. Dvorak think it is mostly propaganda in the way it attempts to present facts.

Life and Death in Shanghai

During NA 440 Adam was discussing how he purchased Gordon Sinclair's It Can Happen Here from Amazon. Dvorak then recommended Life and Death In Shanghai for another story about life in a totalitarian state

The Postman

Dvorak read a donors note recommending the 1997 film The Postman starring Kevin Costner. It's a post apocalyptic movie set in 2013 where the main character becomes a postman to blend in.

John Dos Passos – U.S.A. Trilogy

Adam is surprised at the amount of flak he was receiving for his controversial moon landing theories. This led to a discussion on how everyone is expected to have certain beliefs or they'll be silenced. This in turn brought up a list of books, 1984, It Can Happen Here, then author John Dos Passos

John Dvorak briefly mentioned 1984 when he was discussing fascist, authoritarian societies where you have to have approved opinions.

Cannibal Holocaust

Cannibal Holocaust is an infamous Italian horror movie. The director was arrested for making snuff film, but it turned out the actors signed a contract to disappear after filming to give the illusion they were actually killed in the movie.

Person of Interest

During a discussion on NSA spying of the US public, Dvorak brought up one of his favorite one-liners which came from a geek character that invents a spy system on the CBS TV show Person of Interest. This character went on to reveal they invented Facebook and Foursquare in order to track people.

The Program – Stellar Wind

Documentary featuring NSA whistleblower William Binney. Covers NSA's project Stellar Wind - a project that domestically spys on Americans with advanced programs.

Hit & Run

During NA 438, Adam brought up the movie comedy, Hit & Run. It looks like a dumbo fun movie, but blatantly embedded in the dialog is a promotion for getting vaccinated for HPV.

Merguez Sausage

Adam finally got around to cooking up some Merguez sausage after John Dvorak recommended it. Adam procured them at his favorite Austin Farmer's Market and proceeded to blow them up while cooking them.

Hmong Farmers

Dvorak is impressed by the quality and cheap price of the produce he gets from Hmong farmers at his local farmer's market.

If You Start a Fire (Be Prepared to Burn)

During the NA 436 donation segment, a producer asked for Smash Hit, Off Broadway Play Karma for his new play about to debut titled, "If You Start a Fire (be Prepared to Burn)" scheduled to open on Sept. 14th in NYC.

Cyprus Café

Hot Pockets Tour 2009 rolls on!  The tour is now in the home stretch and Adam was recounting their adventure from Utah to Albuquerque. Before they hit the road, they stopped at Durango’s Cypress Café. Adam reported that he and Micky had an outstanding lunch!

Bay Wolf

During NA 433, John Dvorak was grousing over his anniversary dinner at Oakland's Bay Wolf restaurant. To celebrate, John brought with him some vintage French Lynch-Bages wine that he purchased back in 1989.
