Hmong Farmers
Dvorak is impressed by the quality and cheap price of the produce he gets from Hmong farmers at his local farmer’s market. The Hmong originate from norther Laos mountains in Southeast Asia. Many immigrated to the United States as political refugees of the Vietnam war. John added that they have such great prices – sometimes a pile of things for a buck! To compare, the farmer’s markets in San Francisco are a complete ripoff.
Dvorak further added his annoyance at the old whack job Berkeley ladies that keep asking if the produce is organic or not. They also hold up the line at his favorite market, Monterey Market, while they search for pennies or balance their check book. We’ve popped into Monterey Market from time to time and we recommend you take a mercenary attitude!
