Guest co-host Matt Long’s official, on-air “tip of the day” was refreshingly simple: acetone. He uses it to restore old whiteboards he pulls out of the dumpster — the kind that never quite wipe clean with a regular eraser — making them look new again. It also strips stubborn sticker residue (he mentioned an “I Voted” sticker that went through the wash and left an oval ghost on a shirt) without fading fabric or finish underneath.
His money-saving angle: fingernail polish remover is typically 70-80% acetone, watered down and perfumed, so a $6-7 small bottle of remover is a markup on something you can buy straight. A quart of pure acetone runs about $12, and you can even dilute a bit of it (roughly 20-30% with water) to top off a bottle of nail polish remover at home. Standard safety caveat applies: use it in a well-ventilated area, and don’t sniff it.
Not sold as a single branded product — it’s a basic solvent. You’ll find pure acetone at any hardware store or on Amazon: acetone on Amazon.
