While discussing the Norwegian brown cheese or gjetost, Dvorak brought up Danish matjes, an oily type of herring. The Danish like this oily stuff but he can’t eat it and warns travelers to not eat it the matjes! It stinks to high heaven and it’s really greasy and leaves a foul taste in your mouth he further protested. Some pickled herring can be quite good and he much prefers the Nova Scotia pickled herring.
