Death By Lightning: Gilded Age Corruption and the Assassination of President James Garfield

While discussing the deep corruption in Minnesota, Adam recommended this new mini-series on Netflix called Death By Lightning. Gilded Age Corruption is the background in this show about James Garfield and his assassin Charles Guiteau.

Adam Curry: It’s like three or four episodes about James Garfield, who was elected president almost kind of as a fluke. He was assassinated three months into his presidency.

That shows you—and that was 1848, I think. The corruption, because that’s what it’s all about: the corruption of New York and the Port Authority, and just all of these people. Everybody—corrupt, drunk, womanizing.

And you just sit there and watch it and think, it’s only gotten worse. It’s just that they cover it up better now.

John Dvorak: They do a better job of covering it up. That’s the idea. You learn something.

Adam: You really do learn something. It’s a great series. Tina and I were just like, holy crap—no wonder we’re in such dire straits.
